Managing Medicines
Helping people with their medicines takes thought and professional judgement. There are many regulations and guidelines from organisations each with different perspectives about the medicines management. This training draws on information from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
The Health and Social Care Act (2008) details the standards which must be met. The fundamental standard ‘Safe Care and Treatment’ (Regulation 12) includes the requirement that providers must ensure ‘the proper and safe management of medicines’. However, all the standards must be applied to all aspects of care, including the administration of medication.
As a Care practitioner it is vital that you follow guidelines to avoid mistakes. In this module we’ll look at some key areas and what you need to do.
The module should take around 60 minutes to complete.
